Kaufman trailers suck. We bought a trailer from them not even a year ago and have had nothing but problems with the suspension etc.. I have called and called and left countless messages asking to call back. When they do answer they usually hung up on me and have told me several times just to sue them. They will not repair anything even if you have a warranty. When you talk to their head CEO Tim Carter all he does is say "ummm ummm I don't know what to do" My husband and I keep say hey you can fix the problem (we would drive to the Ne or the NC locations) to get it fixed, or give us our money back, or give a trailer equal value that works right, but he just gives the same answer over and over or hangs up or ends the call with sue us. We are now to the point that we have contacted the better business bureau, their local news channel 14 and are currently composing a video of the whats wrong with the trailer and will be posting it to UTube, so the world can see what great people the Kaufman Trailer Company is. Well... if you are considering a Kaufman trailer DON'T, but if you do make sure you have it checked out, look at all the welds, and check the suspension is level, etc.... And get everything in writing. Ed Another UNHAPPY!!! Kaufman Owner
Ed, I actually stumbled upon your post because of the failures I have had with my kaufman trailer. I own a 20' flat deck trailer and it has been nothing but trouble. First, the brakes lights wouldn't work properly. I haven't figured that out yet. Now more importantly, about 6 months after I purchased the trailer, I noticed the tires starting to bald out in all different places. I called Kaufman as it was under warranty and they told me that I can bring it to a shop of my choice and they would cover the cost of repairs. They stated that their technicians would guide the shop with the proper axle adjustments. While in the shop, no one was able to contact anyone of any importance and the trailer sat there for three before a technician finally returned one of our many calls. Kaufman blamed the tire company and told them there was nothing wrong with the trailer construction. It turns out the four cheapo tires kaufman placed on the trailer as original equipment were made in china and had bubbled along the whole sidewall on all four tires. I replaced them for $1200 with Goodyears and now they are doing the same thing. Even worse, I noticed as I was driving that the leaf springs had slipped off the bracket that holds them together. I was saved by the center bolt which held but was severely damaged. Had the axle come completely loose, I would have been in a serious accident. Kaufman has not only ignored the bill I sent them from the shop, but they do not return my phone calls; more specifically Ernie in charge of warranties. In fact, I wrote a letter to sue them and they have ignored it completely. Too bad I don't live in NC. To summarize, their trailers are complete junk and the company is composed of the southern scum of the earth.
I wish I would have found all these post and comments about how bad kaufman trailers were before i bought one.Bought a two car hauler last october and have replaced all the tires with only a total of about 11k miles the front axle gets somewhere between 5k and 6k per set of tires took three weeks just to talk to someone in the warranty dept said nothing was wrong and they will not fix it.You did good to get Tim Carter on the phone he wont answer my calls. There your best friend when your buying but if you have a problem they dont know your name.Customer service doesn't exist there and i will never buy from them again.
